Homemade playdough

Between Christmas and birthdays, we've collected a lot of "Play-Doh" brand playdough over the last few months. But I finally got tired of it drying out and crumbling and ending up all over the floor. It was time to make some homemade playdough and say goodbye to the rest. Homemade doesn't dry out as fast, has a softer texture, and I don't have to vacuum the floor every time the kids play with it. And just a few colors are all the kids really need.

Read ahead for the new recipe I used (even better than my old one!)

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/4 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tarter
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
Food coloring

* Put all ingredients in a pot and stir
* Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it forms into a ball
* Dump onto wax paper or your counter. When cool, knead until soft.

I love how simple and easy this recipe is. I store the playdough in reusable tupperware containers to keep it soft. My sister uses Kool-Aid instead of food coloring, which makes it smell good too. Something to try.

Daniel made "eggs" with his playdough

John made a huge cake, had us all sing "Happy Birthday" to Daniel (whose birthday is in a few weeks), then cut it up and gave us each a slice.

And Joe was the last survivor! Making who knows what.
